Fahrenheit hotel was built in the corner of Grodzka and Sukiennicza streets. The building is located on the edge of the old town wall and city moat. It is a fascinating place, important for archeologist trying to unveil the unknown history of Gdańsk. We would like to share some of this history with you.
Analysis of wood samples collected from the basic and reinforcements of the wall proved that it was erected around an old Slavic settlement in the first half of the 11th century. Teutonic Knights, who conquered the city in the 14th century, continued to fortify the area.
Stone elements were built into the wooden structure of the wall. Nowadays, we can admire the remnants of stone, rectangular foundations of a wall tower erected in mid-14th century – they can be seen in the breakfast hall located in the underground section of our hotel. Construction works began in 2006 and the hotel was opened on 6th June 2012.
